About

The ReUse Shops at 6 Vivian Place in Annesbrook — known locally as “the tip shop” — have been keeping goods out of landfill since 1992, when the Nelson ReUse & Recycling Centre started in a tiny shed. Today the Nelson Environment Centre runs two shops on the site, the Front Shop and the Back Shop, and its own page lists books alongside clothing, electronics, furniture, kitchenware, camping and DIY gear.

It is open seven days with early starts (8am Monday to Saturday), which makes it the most accessible used-book stop in Nelson. Anything antique, collectable or quirky goes into an in-store silent auction that closes on Wednesday afternoons — worth a look if you collect older or illustrated books.

Revenue supports the centre’s charitable programmes, including Kai Rescue. It is a five-minute drive from Habitat’s Tāhunanui ReStore.

Price tip: Tip-shop pricing — among the cheapest places in Nelson for used books.

What you’ll find

An ever-changing shelf of donated paperbacks, non-fiction and children’s books among clothing, furniture, tools, bikes and building materials; collectables via the weekly silent auction.
