The Salvation Army’s Ashburton Family Store is on Wills Street, a block from the town centre. The Salvation Army lists books among the clothing, furniture, household goods and toys sold in its Family Stores.
Ashburton’s old book exchange has closed (the ODT reported it among the South Canterbury exchanges that had gone by 2024), so this is the town’s most reliable in-town stop for cheap used books — with Chertsey Book Barn 20 minutes up the highway for the big browse.
