About

The Blue Door on Seymour Street opened in 1998 as Marlborough’s first recycling shop, the idea of local woman Beverley Kingston, who wanted surplus household goods to reach people who needed them. It is still volunteer-powered and still central: a block from the Seymour Square end of town.

Its own site lists books alongside furniture, beds, kitchenware, clothing, garden tools, crockery and collectibles, with shelves “regularly replenished” by local donations. Every dollar of profit goes back to Marlborough through an annual grants round — over $1 million to local not-for-profits so far.

Note the hours: closed Sunday and Monday, and Saturday closes at 2:30pm.

Price tip: Charity-shop pricing.

What you’ll find

Donated fiction, local-interest and gardening books, cookbooks and children’s books among household goods and collectibles.
