About

Wanderlust Books has been on Alexandra’s Centennial Avenue since 2008, when Canadian-born owner Tim opened it. Neat Places’ Central Otago guide calls it “no ordinary bookshop”: a few recent releases, but mostly old, rare and collectable titles gathered from local downsizers, travellers swapping paperbacks and the owner’s own scouting.

The layout is part of the charm — exposed schist walls hung with old lanterns, non-fiction on the main floor and an unexpected staircase down to a fiction, classics, poetry and drama room.

It is the only dedicated secondhand bookshop in Central Otago, and a natural stop on the Otago Central Rail Trail or the drive between Queenstown and Dunedin.

Price tip: Everyday paperbacks at secondhand prices; scarce and collectable titles priced individually.
